  1. Morning: Free breakfast by the Diggers in Panhandle (they fed 200/day, no strings).
  2. Noon: Haight & Masonic — Hippie Hill drum circle, Owsley's White Lightning.
  3. Afternoon: Psychedelic Shop (1535 Haight) — first head shop, Allen Cohen's Oracle paper.
  4. Evening: Avalon Ballroom / Fillmore — Chet Helms posters, light shows.
  5. Night: Crash at a Victorian — rent $80/mo, 20 people, one dog named Sunshine.

🌈 What went wrong — and right

By fall, hard drugs, runaways, and media (“Time: The Hippies”) overwhelmed free clinics (Dr. David Smith's Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic still runs). Hippies staged The Death of Hippie parade Oct 6, 1967, burying the media stereotype. Legacy: environmentalism, organic food (Amoeba → Whole Earth Catalog), LGBTQ liberation, and the idea that music + neighborhood can change the world.
